Explore Bowen Island’s coastline on our Shoreline Kayak Tours
Our breathtaking Shoreline Kayaking Tours depart from Snug Cove on Bowen Island at 10am and 2pm daily. This kayaking tour is suitable for all levels of ability and popular with beginner paddlers and families. More experienced paddlers join us too, benefiting from our guide’s kayaking expertise and local knowledge.
‘Finisterre’ kayaking tour
The most popular route takes us north for about ninety minutes paddling, with the snow-capped North Shore Mountains to our right. This route offers the most sheltered paddling conditions, hence is ideal for families and groups looking for an easy paddle. On our way to Finisterre we visit Mannion Bay, home to seals, sea lions, river otters and many seabirds. We have regular breaks from paddling to chat about the history of Bowen Island and Howe Sound.
As we leave Mannion Bay we look for the purple blanket of sea stars feeding just below the water line. Sea Urchins have returned to Howe Sound in the last few years, their bright green a stark contrast in colour. Once we round Miller’s Landing we will look north towards Squamish and see Black Tusk mountain ahead in the distance.
There are three beaches en route giving us an option for a quick stop if the group would like to. We will have a clear view of the ‘Lions’ as we make our approach to Finisterre Island. Here we often raft up our kayaks to take a snack and drink some water before beginning the paddle back to Snug Cove.

‘Apodaca’ kayaking tour
Our alternate route for the shoreline kayak tour heads south along the rugged coastline towards Apodaca Beach. Apodaca is Bowen Island’s only Marine Park. This route can be more exposed to winds so is suited to kayakers who have some experience.
As with the ‘Finisterre’ route you should prepare for encounters with wildlife. In the last two seasons we have been blessed with colonies of sea lions along the shoreline of Bowen Island. The island’s plentiful deer often wander into view above the beaches. A few times every season, lucky paddlers find themselves sighting a pod of Orcas or Humpback Whales feeding
