Experience the Magic of Night Kayaking
The full moon rising over Cypress Mountain is spectacular, come and join us for an evening of night kayaking! On a clear night moonlight shimmers on the water illuminating the surrounding shoreline. Away from city lights the ‘Moon Illusion’ is at its most powerful, a kayak tour at night is a completely different experience
Full moon tour meeting details
This special tour is only offered on a few evenings, closest to the full moon, each season. The tour lasts for 2.5 hours and is suitable for all skill levels. Families with teenage children are most welcome. Advance reservations are required for this tour.
We ask that you meet your guide at the kayak shop in Snug Cove 15 minutes before your tour start time. Full moon tour times change depending upon the time of moonrise. We will call you a day or so in advance to make sure you know exactly when to meet! If you need to catch the ferry back to Horseshoe Bay, we guarantee your return in time for the last crossing.
Upon meeting, we will fit you with your personal floatation device, perform a paddle demonstration and discuss safety when kayaking at night. Each kayak will have lights on the stern so that we can see each other in the dark. Temperatures will start to drop at sundown so kayaking at night, even in the summer, requires an extra layer. Don’t forget your phone for photos, it will be a night to remember. If needed, we sell protective cases so that your phone is safe and dry.

What will we see on the kayak tour?
After our safety briefing, we will launch you at the dock and head North, following the coastline into Mannion Bay where the seals hang out. These curious and magnificent creatures will likely come and check us out. While we always maintain our distance to leave them space, they don’t follow the same rules with us!
Mannion Bay is one of the most sheltered bays in Howe Sound. It is the perfect place for us to make sure you are comfortable before we paddle onwards. As we round Miller’s Landing we get the perfect view of the North Shore mountains across the channel on our right.
We may be lucky enough to kayak with bioluminescence before the moon’s pale light brightens the ocean. We will raft together and turn to face east to watch the moon rise. Here we can chat about the history and ecology of the area while we wait. As the moon rises serenely your guide will give you time and space to enjoy this moment alone.
Once the moon is fully risen we will regroup and begin our gentle paddle back towards the dock in Snug Cove. It will take us around 30 minutes for the return journey.
