Multi day tour details

Although paddling in Howe Sound is a backcountry experience, every effort is taken to impress you with the food we prepare.  We will ensure any food allergies and dietary preferences are catered for.  We maintain a ratio of 1 guide for every four guests on our multi-day trips.

The tours can run with single or double kayaks, the choice is yours!  All kayaking gear, dry bags, and tents are included in each multi-day package.  We can also provide sleeping bags and sleeping pads if you need them.  All our multi-day tours start at Snug Cove, we usually look to depart by 11am, please aim to be with us around 10am.

Our 2 day, 1 night tour is suitable for paddlers with some previous kayaking experience, including children age 13+.  For longer overnight trips we recommend children are aged 15+ given the hours spent paddling each day.

For groups of 3 or more booking together we offer a 10% discount and a 15% discount for 4 people or more. If you don’t see a tour with dates that work for you, contact us!  We will likely be able to offer alternative dates that work better for you.  Reach out today to plan your multi-day kayak tour with Bowen Island Sea Kayaking.

Halkett Bay Overnight Kayaking Tour
(2 days/1 night)

This guided overnight trip is perfect for paddlers with some kayaking experience who want to explore Howe Sound with our knowledgeable guides.  We start the tour from the kayak shop in Snug Cove on Bowen Island.  After checking the expected ocean conditions for the trip we will finalise our float plan and load up our kayaks.

Typical day 1:  We will start our tour by paddling north from Snug Cove to Cates Bay.  On our route we will enjoy the spectacular views of the North Shore Mountains.  As we paddle, make sure to keep a look out for seals, sea lions and other marine mammals!  It will take us an hour or so to reach Cates Bay where we will take a breather and prepare for the crossing to Gambier Island.  This crossing involves navigating the channel with the Langdale bound ferry.  Once our crossing is complete, we make camp at Halkett Marine Park and have our lunch. Our guides will help you set up your tent and then you can enjoy the bay and relax or we can head out to paddle some more.  Take this opportunity to maybe practice your paddling skills with one of your fully trained guides.  In the evening your guide will cook for you and make sure you are comfortable for the night.  If it is safe to do so, we will have a campfire on the beach.

Typical day 2:  First we will prepare breakfast and discuss options for the day.  Often we will paddle further west along the southern shore of Gambier Island, we then make our crossing to Hutt Island where we will break for lunch.  After lunch we commence our paddle back to Snug Cove, with a short stop at Cates Bay beach to stretch.

On the two day tour, you can expect to be kayaking for a minimum duration of 3 hours each day.

Anvil Island Kayaking tour (3 days/2 nights)

The 3 day 2 night trip suits paddlers with kayaking experience who want to explore further into Howe Sound.  Our 3 day kayaking tour is designed for more experienced paddlers looking for a memorable adventure.  This trip takes paddlers deeper into Howe Sound on a truly unforgettable tour.  We will look to explore one of the campsites on the East side of Gambier, circumnavigate Anvil Island on day 2, and paddle home on day 3.

Typical day 1:  This tour builds upon our 2 day tour, adding on a paddling section on the east side of Gambier Island.  This comes after we have safely navigated our crossing from Finisterre on Bowen Island.  After breaking for lunch at Halkett Bay we will aim to make camp either at Douglas Bay or at Thornborough Channel. These are two of the most beautiful spots in Howe Sound to camp.  Once we arrive, your guide will help you pitch your tent and make a delicious evening meal.  If it is safe, we will end the evening with a campfire on the beach.

Typical Day 2:  After a hearty breakfast, you will be guided on a full day paddle around Anvil Island, enjoying the spectacular sights in all directions.  You will look towards Squamish and Black Tusk to the North and the Tantalus Mountains to the West.  Lunch will look across to the North Shore mountains in the East, then we will visit Pam Rocks and the large seal colony living there.  In the late afternoon we will begin our paddle back to our campsite for your evening meal.

Typical Day 3:   Day 3 is all about our return journey, first we will have breakfast, then pack up camp and load up our kayaks.  Two hours of paddling will take us the length of Gambier, we will then make the crossing back to Bowen Island and break for lunch.  After lunch we will complete the paddle home to Snug Cove.

On the three day tour, you can expect to be kayaking for a minimum duration of 5 hours each day.
