Intro to kayaking

Minimum number of participants

2

The purpose of this class is to learn how to paddle as effortlessly as possible while keeping the kayak stable. Starting on the dock with instruction on paddle technique and proper posture, we then move to the water for practice.

Forward and reverse strokes are alternated to keep the boat on a steady course without relying on the rudder. We also practice landing and launching from both a beach and a dock. A brief introduction to tides and weather buoys rounds out the course. If there is time, we may practice forward and reverse sweep strokes before learning high and low bracing while edging.
